Margaret
Rutherford is remembered for her hilarious appearances in such old
movies as "Happiest Days of Your Lives", "Passport
to Pimlico",
"Blithe Spirit", "The VIP's" and the famous
Agathie Christie based "Murder She Wrote" and other films
in which she appeared as the redoubtable
Miss Marple in "Margaret Rutherford Re-called", the
lady herself re-appears to entertain us with stories of her unusual
life, marriage and family
She is played by Jacqueline Pilton, familiar to TV viewers as Mrs
Payne, Fred Elliot's nosey customer in "Coronation Street",
as the gossipy
Mrs Dawes in "Wives and Daughters", and as Bellamy's
Landlady in "Heartbeat"
The one-hour play begins as Margaret returns 'from the beyond' on
her bicycle, cloak billowing behind her, ready to perform again
in "Blithe Spirit"
Or so she believes
But instead she unravels her own story
How is MP Tony Benn connected to her?
Why did she once receive a personal call from Winston Churchill?
What was in the little paper bag which she gave to the Queen?
What was her relationship with the writer who starting out as a
man, discovered he was a woman?
And above all, what was the dark secret which she kept hidden from
her public all her life?
All is revealed as Margaret entertains us again with much laughter
and the occasional tear ...
This delightful funny and poignant entertainment would suit those
who love the films of the 40s, 50s and 60s
